EDUCATOR'S RECOMMENDATION
MITCH THROWER

I am happy to recommend Mitchell Thrower without hesitation. My recommendation of Mitch is based on my experience of him as a student in several courses (including Political Communication, Communication and Gender, and Performance Studies) and as a three year member of the Executive Board of the Forensic Society.

As a student, Mitch demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility, not just toward the completion of course requirements, but toward the classroom experience as well. Mitch contributes thoughtful and original questions and comments to class discussions and is comfortable discussing material on an advanced level. It is clear that Mitch supplements course readings with outside readings. His actions in locating and integrating outside readings into class discussions demonstrate his energy and his commitment to his education. I would especially like to stress the original nature of much of Mitch's contributions to class discussions as well as his original (creative and enthusiastic) approach to written assignments. The presence of original thinking indicates Mitch's ability to be a "self-starter," a quality that ensures a full and rich experience in study abroad, where much of what a student learns derives from his/her ability to seek out experiences.

As faculty advisor to the Forensic Society, I can also speak to Mitch's performance outside the classroom. Mitch's involvement with the Forensic Society again reveals his commitment to his education. The Society functions without departmental affiliation and generates an impressive schedule of student organized and run activities. The primary goal of the Forensic Society is to develop an awareness of the importance of communication skills, both as a part of a liberal arts education and in "real life." The Society has consistently benefited from Mitch's enthusiasm and responsibility.

I have found Mitch consistently to be mature, concerned, competent, and energetic. He is not only able to conceive challenging projects, he is able to pursue them through to successful completion. He recognizes his responsibility for his education and embraces the challenge eagerly.
